In order to continuously enhance students' interest in science, learning science and using science to pursue knowledge and innovative ability; in order to continuously guide students to pay attention to new developments in science and technology, new technologies and new achievements, Hangzhou Shanghai World Foreign Language Middle School, held the 4th Campus Technology Festival from mid-April to mid-May.
On May 19, the month-long campus technology festival entered the most critical and exciting stage. Accompanied by all teachers, students from grades 7 and grade 8 in both bilingual and IC departments actively participated and fully experienced the fun of science in the process of doing it themselves. They cultivated a sense of exploration, innovative thinking and practical ability, making this unusual technology festival event colorful and vibrant.
In the intense questioning process, students from all grades were united and contributed ideas. Facing round after round of challenges, the students listened carefully, analyzed carefully, discussed actively, and answered reasonably. The contestants did their best, both excited and cheering for the excellent performance of their opponents. In the intense competition, the students learned a lot of science knowledge closely related to life. Everyone sighed that knowledge is power and science is everywhere.
This wonderful and interesting science knowledge competition not only popularized scientific knowledge and spread scientific ideas, but also stimulated creative thinking and enriched campus life. More importantly, it enabled everyone to increase their scientific knowledge and literacy in a relaxed and pleasant environment, thus forming a good habit of talking about science, loving science and using science.
The educator Dewey once said: What is needed for successful teaching is not explaining, but arousing students' interest. In this science magic show, teacher Chen Xiaoxia and Dr. Fang Jiajun brought air cannons, fire palms and liquid nitrogen experiments to make students' interest in scientific exploration more lasting and add fun to better understand scientific knowledge.
The science magic show activity adapted to the students' age and situation, combining education and entertainment. The immersive experience ignited the students' curiosity and thirst for knowledge. There were doubts, laughter and exclamations all around, endless. I believe that the seed of science we planted in the children's hearts will one day grow into a lush forest!
This science amusement park activity used common objects in life as props to conduct various themed exploratory interactive science popularization experimental performances. Students from grades 7 and grade 8 in both bilingual and IC departments participated in nearly 30 experimental performances, such as making leaf vein bookmarks, turning water into ice, crossing the line of fire, dragon sucking water, kaleidoscope, milk painting, pot throwing, etc. The knowledge covered was wide, interesting and diverse.
Through different project settings and combining observation and experience, this science amusement park activity more comprehensively and richly enhanced the interest of science popularization. The students participated in it and felt the charm of science up close, arousing their interest in exploration.
Through conceiving topics, associating themes, formulating plans, collecting information, recording processes, making exhibitions and other links, the 4th Campus Technology Festival of Hangzhou Shanghai World Foreign Language Middle School, truly practiced project-based learning through thinking, discussing and exploring. Students have made in-depth development in core qualities such as scientific concepts, scientific thinking, practical exploration, sense of responsibility, aesthetic ability and creative ability.
